NP-3 EZappliance PlatformNPU Based Appliance for Network Equipment and Software Applications Vendors
EZchip’s NP-3 EZappliance is a compact hardware platform based on EZchip’s NP-3 30-Gigabit network processor. The system provides fully programmable packet processing and fine-grained hierarchical traffic management, which can be tailored by vendors to a wide variety of networking applications. The 1U stand-alone or rack-mountable system is fully redundant and offers twenty-four 1-Gigabit Ethernet and two 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports.
At the core of EZappliance is EZchip’s NP-3 network processor that offers fully-programmable packet classification, modification, forwarding, policing and traffic management for enabling per-flow Quality of Service (QoS). A PowerQUICK™ III CPU provides control-plane functionality. The combination of the EZchip network processor and a general purpose CPU provide a complete data plane and control plane solution.
EZappliance is a powerful platform that utilizes the network processor to enable high performance implementation of network applications such as carrier Ethernet access and metro switches/routers, traffic management, security, gateways, network monitoring and traffic analysis.
Network equipment vendors as well as independent software vendors can utilize this high performance network appliance as a platform on which to deliver their solutions. By employing the NP-3 EZappliance important benefits are realized including enhanced performance, shortened time-to-market and reduced development costs.
EZappliance through its NP-3 network processor provides 24 Gigabit per second wire-speed throughput with flexible processing including packet header manipulation, tunneling, layer 2 switching, IPv4 and IPv6 routing and stateful classification. The NP-3 integrated traffic management provides wire-speed QoS functionality, including hierarchical per-flow and per-class policing and shaping, congestion management and highly granular statistics collection.
EZappliance provides flexible port configurations, with 24 Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and up to two 10-Gigabit XFP ports. The enclosure features full redundancy including swappable AC/DC power supplies, fan tray and filter tray.
EZchip’s wide range of network processors that scale from a few Gigabits in throughput and up to 100-Gigabits provide investment protection for systems scalability to equipment and software vendors.
A comprehensive software environment and development tools with support for the Linux® operating system is provided. EZchip also provides customers with a broad library featuring tested source code for a wide range of applications, such as L2 switching, Q-in-Q, PBT, T-MPLS, VPLS, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6 routing, firewall and IDS.

EZappliance contains the Linux® operating system, EZchip software to support application development, EZchip sample applications and diagnostic software. These software components are pre-installed on the system’s flash memory. EZappliance can also support other operating systems that run on MPC processors.
The software components enable EZappliance to operate as-is on power up as well as provide the necessary components for the development of custom networking applications utilizing the EZchip network processor.
A Telnet server, FTP client and NFS client are pre-installed on EZappliance. A supplied utility enables binary executable files to be transferred to EZappliance for execution after reboot.
